Angela Lombardi

Associate Professor

Angela Lombardi graduated with honors in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bari in 2014. In January 2018, she received her PhD in Signal Processing and Computational Neuroscience (cum laude) with a thesis on the multidimensional dynamic analysis of physiological brain signals.

She worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Computational Neuroscience at the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (2018–2020), contributing to the nextMR and AIM experiments. From 2020 to 2022, she was Assistant Professor at the Physics Department of the University of Bari, focusing on AI-driven methods for early diagnosis and personalized staging of neurodegenerative diseases.

She is currently an Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Bari, Italy. Her research focuses on brain–computer interfaces, low-cost and sparse EEG systems for affective and cognitive state monitoring, explainable and human-centered AI in clinical decision support, and generative and predictive modelling for computational neuroscience (including brain age prediction, digital twin simulation, and federated learning for privacy-preserving medicine). She also develops quantitative XAI metrics to evaluate stability, plausibility, and safety of model explanations in real-world settings.
