    Carmelo Antonio Ardito

    Full Professor

    Carmelo Ardito is Full Professor of Computer Science at Politecnico di Bari, where he also serves as Coordinator of the Degree Programme in Digital Creativity Engineering. From 2022 to 2024, he was Full Professor at LUM Giuseppe Degennaro University, where he coordinated the Degree Programme in Computer Engineering. From 2019 to 2022, he was Associate Professor at Politecnico di Bari, coordinating the Degree Programme in Computer and Automation Engineering. From 2012 to 2019, he was a tenured Assistant Professor at the University of Bari Aldo Moro. He holds a PhD in Computer Science; his PhD thesis was entitled Interaction with Mobile Devices in Multimodal and Pervasive Scenarios.

    He teaches courses in Human-Computer Interaction, Programming, Cybersecurity, and Visual Data Analytics. He is the Director of the local node at Politecnico di Bari of the CINI National Cybersecurity Laboratory. He also teaches Cybersecurity and Data Science in postgraduate master’s programmes and professional training courses.

    His research interests include human-computer interaction, human-centred artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and Digital Creativity. He has co-authored more than 150 papers published in international journals, conference proceedings, and edited volumes. He serves on the editorial boards of scientific journals and on the programme committees of leading international conferences in his research areas.

    He has been visiting researcher/professor at several international research laboratories, including: the Helsinki Institute for Information and Technology, the HCI group of the University of Patras, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, School of Digital Technologies of Tallinn University, DEI Interactive Systems Group of the University Carlos III, Cyprus Interaction Laboratory, Brunel University, and University of Hertfordshire.

    He is Secretary of IFIP TC13, the Technical Committee on Human-Computer Interaction of the International Federation for Information Processing. Within TC13, he also serves as Country Representative, sector b), for Italy, and as Vice-Chair of Working Group 13.2 – Methodologies for User-Centered Systems Design. In 2022, he received the IFIP Service Award in recognition of his dedicated work within TC13 and his significant contribution to the organization of international scientific conferences.
