Pursuing Privacy in Recommender Systems

Pursuing Privacy in Recommender Systems

Recommender systems have widely grown thanks to their outstanding capability of providing users with accurate and tailored recommendations. However, recently, public awareness about data property and new regulations like GDPR forced recommender system researchers and practitioners to study solutions to user privacy endangerment.
In this context, this year at RecSys, the premier international forum on recommender systems, we will give a tutorial on privacy-awareness in recommender systems. The tutorial will cover both academic and industrial points of view and range from motivational and high-level discussions to detailed analysis of architectures and solutions, with two engaging final hands-on sessions.
The tutorial will be offered by Vito Walter Anelli, Yashar Deldjoo, Tommaso Di Noia, Antonio Ferrara, Fedelucio Narducci, and Claudio Pomo from SisInfLab. At the same time, Luca Belli from Twitter will enrich the discussion by presenting the case of Twitter as an example of how to preserve privacy at an industrial scale.
